Prince Edward Island is a beautiful place to visit. The entire province seems like a postcard with its quaint colorful buildings and picture-perfect properties. You may be looking for accommodations that are more budget-friendly why not try tent camping? So the question is where to camp in PEI? Here is a list of a few places that you can camp.
#1 Stanhope Campground PEI National Park
While PEI leans more towards campgrounds with minimal privacy when it comes to campgrounds, Stanhope does have some more wood cover for moderate privacy for those who enjoy tent camping. The other advantage of Stanhope is its proximity to the Ocean. It is a beautiful place to visit with biking lanes, and hiking trails, quaint little cottages, and a beautiful beach. It is located a little more away from the touristy areas. If you are looking for somewhere to stay that is quiet, peaceful and a good place to rest up, this is a good campground. It is also a fairly good jumping-off spot for visiting Charlottetown.
Some of the amenities offered at Stanhope are:
- Accessible
- Accessible Toilets
- Firepit
- Firewood
- Group Camping
- Kiosk
- Kitchen Shelter
- Parking
- Playground
- Swimming
- Trail
#2 Cornwall / Charlottetown KOA Holiday
Charlottetown KOA has the advantage of being located in the center of the Island. So it is one of the best jumping-off locations for seeing much of the island without needing to move. If you are visiting Charlottetown itself than this campground is strategically placed only being a 20-minute drive.
The Campground itself offers all the amenities that a camper would need. It has hookups for large RV’s and offers campsites for tenters. The campground also gives the option of renting a cabin. The campground’s strength is the location and this is the main reason it is listed here. Do not expect to have a lot of privacy here since most sites are quite closely packed together. If you are tenting and can snag a site that has tree cover you are doing quite well.
For the price, the location is ideal vs staying in a high priced hotel during the busy season. This campground is a definite pick for getting a good value.
#3 New Glasgow Highlands Campground
If you are tent camping in PEI you may be looking for more privacy during your stay. New Glasgow Highlands Campground achieves this better than any that we have come across on PEI. They offer wooded, private, well-spaced campsites for tent campers. The fire pits are also more private allowing you to enjoy the fire without sitting beside your neighbors.
The campground also offers:
- washrooms
- trails
- a lodge
- pool
- playground
- store
- office
- pond
- fishing
- canoe & kayak rentals
- trailer hookups etc.
- cabin rentals
- fire pits
- potable water
So there you have some of the best campgrounds in PEI. Some are more secluded than others with New Glasgow Highlands being the best. Some are very close to Charlottetown or close to a beach. PEI has much to offer in the way of an Island experience. It is advertised as a calm and peaceful place where one can just relax and unwind. For this PEI does not disappoint.
